Brett (backend/alternative text for PowerPoint)
  • Reimplemented backend code so we can select text and display a "fix" dialog. Still proof of concept and needs to be cleaned up.
  • Almost finished with alternative text, only need to handle shapes.
Nick (deployment)
  • Still needs to complete, thinks install script might be present, which would make our lives much easier

Goals

  1. Complete accessibility violation detection for four best practices detected for the beta version.
  2. Determine how to summarize violations of these best practices
  3. Determine what graphical element can be presented to the user to correct violations of these best practices
  4. Determine how to access PowerPoint data through OpenXML SDK (Brett)

Notes

We were able to successfully implement the logic for detecting alternative text within images in PowerPoint. The only work left to be done on this feature is to detect alternative text for shapes. This work was done by Brett. Alan and Nick worked on deepening our understanding of the Word object model and how to work with it. Primarily, they were focused on determining information relevant to the beta version (i.e. how images are represented, how titles are represente, etc.). Nick was able to compile a list of what types of images corresponded to what structure in the object model. Alan was tasked with "marking up" the OpenXML with information relevant to these images so that we could easily make the translation between image types in the xml and image types in the object model. This translation (along with what types of images map to what object model structures) can be found here.
